Truck rental may
seem to be an exciting opportunity for any family who is
relocating but there are various legal and statutory issues
which are involved with hiring a truck. You must be thoroughly
updated about all these rules, or else, you might land in
serious problems with the traffic authorities and your
relocation plans may be jeopardized. Here is some information
which you must be aware of before you hire a truck for
relocation: |

-
Though this rule may vary from one state to another, most US states
require the hirer of a truck to be over 24 years of age. There
might be some leniency allowed but it depends on which state
you are hiring the truck from. in case you are below 24
(between 21 and 23) you would have to provide additional
documents including two valid proofs of identity, valid
driving license as well as you credit or debit card. As an
under-age person hiring a moving truck, you would have to
shell out an additional fee of $6 per day.
-
If you wish to take a co-driver with you, the additional driver would
also have to be over 21 years of age and possess a valid
driving license along with credit or debit card. There are
many cities, where debit cards are not accepted.
-
All co-drivers would be charged a fee of $5 per day which is added to
the rental cost.
-
you could opt for your spouse to be the co-driver, but similar
additional charges would still be levied to your overall
rental costs.

The minimum age
requirements are varied depending on various special situations.
These include:
-
For army personnel, the age requirement is reduced to 18 for being
eligible to hire a truck.
-
Many reputed business houses are exempted from paying additional charges
for under-age drivers. These companies do not fall under any
age restrictions and free from several other charges.
-
Government employees who are above 18 years of age would not have to pay
any additional charges when they hire moving trucks.

Before hiring a moving truck the agency would ask you to
provide several documents:
-
A valid drivers license
-
A major credit or debit card
-
At least any one of the following proof of identity which contains the
same name and address which appears in your valid driving
license:
-
Valid US passport or
present US military ID card
-
Employer ID card
-
Current auto insurance
card
-
Current copy (not older
than 60 days) of the renters mobile bill or home
telephone bill, bank statement of any current utility
bill.
Truck rental agencies are
flexible in asking you for your proof of identity and these
requirements differ from one agency to another. So when you
are negotiating your agreement with any agency, it is better
that you ask them regarding the various documents which they
require, before they agree to give you the truck on rent.
